I don't eat seafood. I don't like how it looks, I don't like how it tastes. I grew up on the Great Plain of Hungary for Pete's sake. My mom would buy frozen "sea fish filet" sometimes, it was a treat, but that is the extent of my seafood-experience. Also, I am not one who is adventurous in food. It took me 6 years of getting used to the idea of eating the crab rangoons at the Chinese buffet back in Michigan. [And now I love it! But that's beside the point.]
Anyway, my super kind neighbor brought some mussels over the other day. She prepared it beautifully. Very simple, with lemon and parsley. The true flavor of mussels shone.
Yet...
People eat seafood here every day. We live on the sea so it is just a natural part of life. I'm not gonna lie, I still can't get used to the sight and smell of all those slimy creatures at the market.
Fortunately husband is not crazy for them either so he doesn't mind if I don't prepare them often. Or ever. *snarky grin*
