Blessed on Saturday

Saturday morning we went out to the Dutch Treat campground where we met up with some old and new friends. We were reported the day before that a few little girls in the campground decided to set up a lemonade stand for a whole week and give all the proceeds to a missionary family! Namely: to US! :)
They had a Buy one get one free sale going all week and even with that they were able to raise 70 dollars!!!
Wow..... we were so humbled and encouraged, there are no words!
We went out to see the girls and we gave them a short presentation about the ministry and people of Indonesia. We praise the Lord for the hearts of these precious girls and pray that He will bless them through this as well! Thank you for blessing us!!!

Triple birthday party
Scott's mom, dad and sister celebrated their birthdays recently. Part of the family was able to get together at our place on Saturday and have some cake and ice cream.

Friday car wash and party

car wash
The last event of our chruch's missions week was the car wash on Friday. Old and young, they all worked together, brushing and wiping and spraying and rinsing.... We got a heavy rain just when the car wash started, so for a while we didnt have a lot of cars pulling in. But then, when the rain stopped and people started getting out of work, we got more traffic.
Benjamin really enjoyed the rain and the puddles. As always.
it was hilarious to see Benjamin helping out at the rinse phase with his squirt gun
And here I come with the van.... it was truly humbling sitting in my car seeing a bunch of people working around me. Working FOR me. It was a true service from their part and it really took humility to "accept" it.
Scott was helping out at the RINSE phase
young marrieds sunday school class party at the neitzke's
Wow.... the Neitzke's know how to throw a party! :)
Marsha's decorations and table settings were spectacular. She even made rosemary-lime-water! Fabulous!
Everyone brought a dish.... oh my...we had so much good food!!! Joel made a great job grilling the burgers and the chicken. When everyone gathered, Joel took a few minutes to give us a brief encouragement from the Word.
We took some group pictures. First the "American style" picture.... Everyone smile please!!
Then we took the "Hungarian style" picture.... No smiling please.
Some of you guys failed badly at "not smiling" (Jen! you are Totally smiling!! Becky and Erin.. you guys have a naturally "American face", your eyes are smiling even when you are not smiling :). And you. Scott. You really should know better!! :)
The rest of you guys did a fabulous job not smiling..... Especially Liz Krol! She totally has the Attitude!! :)
To my greatest dismay the "Korean style" picture turned out blurry. :(  But I though I would still stick it here..... I think it's really funny! :)

9 couples, hours of talking, laughing, eating, hanging out, roasting marshmallows at the camp fire, playing.....
Thanks guys! it was a great fun!
Oh. I felt like I really should put a picture of THE SWEATER up here that we talked and laughed about so much! So here it is. My lovely sweater. That I do not own. Yet. :)

Thursday

Another nice picnic at the park. Organized by our church. I was surprised how many showed up both to help or as guests. They did a great job with all the fun activities. There were lots of carnival games for kids with prizes, balloon animals, tattoo and face painting tables, puppet show and good food!

Wednesday bike ride

It was a nice, cool and windy morning and Benjamin and I decided to go for a bike ride.
I took a few shots along the way.
We love Target popcorn!!!
Elections are coming.....

We went through McDonald's drive-thru and got a strawberry lemonade. I found it way too sweet. Even for American standards :)

Tuesday

Library, kids' craft show, farmer's market
This morning I decided to take Benjamin to the public library. It is always a winning option when I notice that he walks around a lot during the day..... bored.... While I am picking out books for me, for him, and some workout videos, he can play with some other kids at the play-corner. They have such a nice playing area at the Grandville library.
There was a story-time reading starting as well when we got there, but he was more interested in the little plastic cows and bricks in the play area so we went back there.
Outside there was a kids craft show where kids were selling their (very cute) crafts! What a great idea! They all looked so cute, sitting there at their little stands, looking all "important" and full of expectations.... it just made me want to buy something from each of them! :) Well, I didnt do that, but I did buy a very nice headband from a little girl (she was so sweet....), and a couple of fridge magnets from a little boy.
Then we went over to the farmers market where we got some corn, bread rolls and blueberries! :)

Church picnic
Ohhh...so fun! our church (Jenison Bible Church) put out this awesome picnic tonight at a park.
The whole community was invited. I'm so glad my Estonian friend, Kairi and her two adorable girls could make it too. There were lots of carnival games with prizes for kids, good food (grilled hotdogs, crackers, watermelon, cookies, pastries and lemonade), and good company.
The church did a great job organizing the event!
Ahh! Good day! :)

Pleasant Friday

Bikeride
As Scott working on getting in shape for his upcoming trip to Indonesia, Benjamin is enjoying spending time with his papa.

basil and pesto
I have tried to grow basil several times. Every time: failure.
I either over-watered them, or kept them in the dark corner too much, either way, they all died a slow death.
I have a friend who threw a handful of basil seeds in a pot of soil and left the pot out on her balcony, just to find a big, bushy and luscious basil plant there in a few weeks.
Well, that's not me.
I kill plants, that is just what I do.
But my great desire still remains: to be able to grow some herbs.

We spent last weekend in Kankakee, IL in some friends' house. Tanya, the wife made the most delicious pesto I have ever had. She handed over the little herb book that she got the recipe from.
So I have it, and I am even gonna share the recipe, now I just have to figure out where I'm gonna get all that basil from.
best pesto recipe
3 cup packed fresh basil leaves
1/2 to 3/4 cup packed fresh parsley
3/4 cup grated parmesan or romano cheese
1/2 cup nuts (pine nuts, walnuts or cashews)
1/2 cup olive oil
3 to 6 cloves garlic
dash of black pepper
Place all ingredients in a blender or food processor and mix until smooth.
That's it.

teeth whitening
who doesn't want white teeth? Now it is available for those too who don't feel like spending 50 dollars for whitening products or 2-300 dollars for a whitening procedure.
I found the "recipe" on Pinterest, so it must be good! :)
The hydrogen peroxide might sound frightening at first, but apparently that is what they use in whitening products.

Put a tiny bit of toothpaste into a small cup, mix in 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon hydrogen peroxide, and half a teaspoon water
Thoroughly mix, then brush your teeth for 2 minutes. Do this once a week until you reach the desired result. After that only do the process once in every 1 or 2 month.

jokes :)
Finally! I have found some good ones in English. I like word jokes, twisting meanings and such. In Hungarian I know a ton of them.

why is 6 afraid of 7?
because 7 8 9!

How did the barber win the race?

How do you make a tissue dance?
Put a little boogie in it. :)

PLAYWORLD on Fairlanes in Grandville.
Super fun! We went there with my friend this morning. Her little girl and Benjamin had a blast jumping in the bouncy house, riding around in little cars, playing with balls or climbing in huge and long tubes. There is an entrance fee of $5.95, but if you are planning to stay there for at least a few hours it is way worth it!

 Baked Crab Rangoons (Gluten-free)
mmm... Scott has not been able to eat the fried crab rangoons in Chinese restaurants because of his allergy. So I decided to make him some.
I found a good recipe on tracysculinaryadventures.blogspot.com. It was really easy to make.... although I still have to learn how to do the little triangle bundles properly. :)

The dipping sauce.... I had it at a Chinese restaurant once and when we were leaving I asked the waitress is she knew what was in that glorious dipping sauce that they served with the dumplings. She told me it was only soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and scallions (green onions)!!

Baked crab rangoon recipe here.

I am so grateful for my life, and family, and for my eternal life!!!
Thank you God!!!

My first poached egg!

Yes, I know. I have never poached an egg before. Until this morning.
Last night we watched Master Chef with Scott, and the pressure test was about cooking eggs in 3 different ways. One of the techniques was poaching. I was thinking... wow, I would not know how to poach an egg!
So this morning I tried it. I was actually really surprised when it worked! :) Hha!
And it was delicious!! Even Gordon Ramsey couldn`t say otherwise!

As for me and my house

This is our #10 house.
We have lived in 2 countries, 2 states and 10 different houses since we got married with my wonderful husband, Scott in 2006.
We are missionaries who committed their lives to serve the Lord wherever He takes us. It pleased Him to call us to Italy and serve with New Tribes Mission.
I have been collecting and pinning oodles and oodles of pictures of what I imagine my house to be one day, but since we are always renting our houses, I cannot really go wild with decorating right now.
But I know the day is coming when I can finally call a place OUR HOME.

So that is how we live now. Simple. But not lacking anything.
