Slippers and detective stories

I just recently learnt how to crochet slippers.
I had no idea how easy it is! Really! I am a passionate but basic crocheter. I know sc, dc, hdc, tr and sl st. That is pretty much it. But you can do so much with it!! So far I made a pair of turquise slippers, I wear them all day long in the house..
...a pair of navy ones with cute burnt orange toe-detail..

My crochet supplies... I also made the bag...

I LOVE detective shows, but recently most of these shows got so BAD! I mean the violence and evilness is just too much for me. Criminal Minds, Dexter, Law&Order... even CSI is so full of gore and brutality that it makes no sense to watch it at all! It is just not enjoyable anymore! We watched a couple episodes of the Closer a few weeks ago.... and I actually had to stop in the middle of the show. I don't want to fill my head with those images....
There are not a lot of classic detective shows anymore, but you can still find them. The older ones from the 80's 90's are great. Some of my favorites are Colombo, Murder, She Wrote, Poirot...etc... You get pure, classic and witty crime solving stories! I also enjoy these "old fashioned" detectives' strong and moral character.
The character of Jessica Fletcher from Murder, She Wrote is probably my favorite fiction characters ever!
There is also Murdoch Mysteries... The No1 series in Canada!! The show is set in the late 1800's and early 1900's before the invention of all the modern technologies. Even the use of "finder marks" is pretty new at this time. I love the brilliance of the main character, Detective William Murdoch. Again, you get clever stories and great entertainment without the price of gore and brutality.

lovely afternoon at the beach

We had such a lovely afternoon in Grand Haven yesterday. We walked out on the peer.... all the way to the light house. On the peer the wind was quite strong and cold. But as soon as we got back on the beach, it actually felt quite pleasant. The sand was nice and warm...
I brought a big blanket... and while the boys were building sand castles I had a few minutes to just read my Bible, meditate and journal... Oh so lovely!! :)
We only had a 2-hour parking spot, so after a little while we went back to the van and packed up our stuff. On the way home we stopped at Coldstone for some great icecream.
Scott got the DoubleDouble (coffee) icecream, while I enjoyed a dark chocolate raspberry one. Love love love!!! Now that is the kind of treat that I would "spend" my calories on. :)

Oh so yummy Creamy Broccoli Chicken with Pearl Barley

I love barley. I make up a big batch and it keeps in the fridge for a whole week. Its so easy to just scoop out some for a side dish for Anything!
The other day I picked up a HUGE bag of scrumptious broccolis at Cosco. Today for lunch I made one of my favorite broccoli dishes. It literally takes 10 minutes from start to finish and it is DELICIOUS!!
I just warmed up some chewy barley to go with it. Done!

SUPER QUICK CREAMY BROCCOLI CHICKEN

Sauté some CHOPPED ONIONS on some OLIVE OIL.
Add 4 GARLIC SEGMENTS.
Add a chopped CHICKEN BREAST. Stir.
Add roughly chopped BROCCOLI FLORETS.
Season with SALT, PEPPER, GARLIC POWDER, BASIL.
Add some WATER. Stir.
Add 1/4 cup of SOUR CREAM.
Some more water.
At the end I like no sprinkle it with some SHREDDED CHEESE for extra flavor and creaminess.
Done!

For gluten free version use RICE instead of BARLEY

Saturday afternoon fun
